Headwind of Life APRIL 17-18 / 2021

Shimmering trees, alive with birds,

Creak of the screen door, before the sun.

Released rain drops, flying up,

Brilliant in light on a pindo palm.

Inverted foliage, reflected in the water,

Gazing at ripples, upside down.

Interrupted by a splash, falling twigs,

Between branches, a frog makes a sound.

What is glory in a troubled world?

Thoughts like seeds, disappear in the ground.

There they lie, appearing to die,

But then they begin to grow.

Do they too, have a soul?

Purplish smudges in the dimming evening sky,

Light pools in the lake’s dark moving ripples.

Genres feel backward, created when they’re done,

Transient like wind toying with drops on a fixture.

In the headwind of life,

It takes self-will, maybe madness,

Take the leap anyway, put your name on it,

Because you have a vision, and it’s worth the distance,

Worth the distance, to make a difference.

It’s the duality, of gazing outward and in,

The harsh light of reality, and hazy glow of dream.

There’s a sense of questing, things can be unfixed,

Twisting textures form into what they mean.
